“The obvious challenge is, can it be mined safely so it doesn’t create public-safety issues for the people around the mining site, or worse, contamination of groundwater that could impact … Virginia Beach,” McDonnell said Tuesday on WNIS radio.

Double Standard??? 

One the positive side, Meola has altered verbiage from yesterday’s story.  Instead of stating the NAS study will determine whether U can be mined safely, she states “A National Academy of Sciences committee is studying the impacts of uranium mining in the state and is expected to issue a report in December, just before the start of the 2012 legislative session, when a battle to lift the ban is likely.”  However, she falls short in the statement  in that the NAS is issuing a REPORT, not conducting a study.
