Many of you have heard of the Freedom of Information Act, commonly referred to as FOIA.  It provides a means by which citizens and journalist may request existing government documents.  Often there is a lack of understanding of the Act by both citizens and government.  Having correct knowledge and use of FOIA can be instrumental as a means of assuring greater government openness and accountability.

There will be a FOIA workshop in Danville in  Sep. 19, 2011 at the Institute.  Fee is $45 per person.  Forms can be downloaded through this site.  I encourage those on our e-list to take advantage of the opportunity to learn how to effectively use FOIA.

As the provider of this story stated, “Looks like McDonnell loves the mining people.”  What’s not to love?  Over $1,600,000 in campaign contributions sonce 2003, !$170,500 in 2011 (75% Rep.) alone according to www.vpap.org I’m sure the legislators are “diggin’ on” that!  km
